Why is social security and medicare untouchable when it comes to deficit reduction?

First of all, Social Security and Medicare are the most important income factors to guarantee a full financial security for the old age, survivors and people with disability. Social Security and Medicare is the main reason why we work hard 40 hours a week. We work for Social Security so we can have it when we retires or become disabled. So it should never be touched.
